Your Fitting
Most wedding dresses require alterations to make sure your dress is a perfect fit, and if you chose to, we have skilled seamstresses available to help you.
Please note that all the seamstresses are self-employed and payments must be made directly with or to them, and not through Oliver's Bridal
The cost of alterations will be quoted by your seamstress at the time of your first fitting and providing your measurements don’t change, they only charge for the finished job, not the number of fittings.
Fittings carried out at the shop we will organise for you, currently these are on Friday daytimes. If you require fittings on other days, evenings or Saturday’s we can provide the dressmaker details so you can arrange a convenient fitting directly with them.
The number of fittings varies.
You may only need one or two but sometimes multiple alterations are required. Due to the concentration needed the seamstresses ask you to limit the amount of people you bring with you to 2 people.
When your dress has been altered and your fittings completed your dress will be have been steamed and ready to take; this is normally a couple of weeks prior to your wedding. It comes in a white breathable dress bag, and we recommend you keep your dress hung from a wardrobe or curtain rail. If it has a long train and you have room to, unzip the bag and hang your dress with its train down, the seamstress will run through this with you.
If you do not have room, then at least a day before your wedding hang your dress outside the bag so creases have time to drop. Some fabrics like lace or tulle will not normally require anything more than this but some other fabrics can crease so if you have a handheld steamer you may wish to give the back of the dress a light steam over. Please see link to our video on steaming your dress. How to steam your dress
Please note that we do not offer an in-house alteration service on our bridesmaids dresses at all. The same lovely seamstresses who will see our brides should also be able to alter your maids dresses as well, and we’ll gladly supply you with their details when so that you can contact them directly to book in.
